Here are some tips for removing oil stains from brick driveways. Blot the New Stain If the oil stain is new and still wet, you can start by blotting up as much of the oil as possible. Use a dry cloth or rag to blot up the oil. Do not rub it on the oil or the oil will spread to other parts of the brick and give you a harder cleaning job. Instead, blot the areas of the oil lightly, rotating the rag when it gets wet. You may need more than one rag if one gets too wet. Put the rags in the washing machine once you are done. Soak Up the Oil Another way to help soak up some of the oil is by using cat litter. This is usually done when the oil has set in a little bit on the brick. You might not have noticed the stain until much later when the excess oil has either dried into the brick or is starting to settle. In this case, grab a handful of cat litter and start placing it over the oiled part of the brick. Since the brick is outside, the cat litter will be easy to sweep up when you’re finished, making this is a good option. Make sure you are using the sand litter, and not the crystals, to soak it up. Leave the litter on the oil for a few hours before removing it. Clean it With Bleach Once you have soaked up as much of the oil as you can, it is time to start removing the leftover stain. Bleach is the best cleaning solution to tackle oil stains on brick, and it won’t stain your brick, which is another bonus. Mix bleach with water in a spray bottle and spray it onto the oil stains on the brick. Let it sit for several minutes or up to an hour.
